The Senate has begun hearing on the impeachment of siaya deputy Governor William Oduol after MCAs impeached him.

Oduol was impeached on June 29, 2023, after 42 members of the County Assembly (MCAs) unanimously approved the special committee report constituted to investigate the grounds for why an impeachment motion was brought against him.

East Asembo Ward MCA Gordon Onguru proposed the impeachment resolution, accusing the Deputy Governor, among other things, of flagrant violations of the Constitution, abuse of power, and mismanagement of public resources.

In a report filed on the House floor by its Chairman, Yimbo East Ward MCA Francis Otiato, the special committee found the charges to be proven and recommended impeachment of the DG.

In an earlier interview, oduol explained that the differences between him and James Orengo were not personal but ideological and that he holds nothing against the governor.

"My disagreement with Orengo is not personal; it is ideological." We worked well together throughout the campaign and our first months in office. So when we started, we started well, and things happened along the line," Oduol explained.

Oduol stated that he and Orengo split up after noticing odd withdrawals from Siaya County's imprest account around the end of November 2022.

"Because of my background in finance, I would review the county's finances on a regular basis." "Toward the end of November, I began noticing large and unusual withdrawals from the imprest account," he said.

Perplexed by the unexpected activities, Oduol summoned Siaya County's finance officers to explain the strange withdrawals, only to have them play dumb at first.

The financial officer confessed after he threatened to report the event to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The Siaya DG questioned Orengo about the withdrawals, but the Governor of Siaya allegedly rejected his questions. Oduol claims that he expected the erratic withdrawals to stop because he contacted Orengo, so he left the situation alone. According to Oduol, the transactions, nevertheless, persisted.

When he presented his results to the Siaya County Assembly, officials allegedly stated that he had failed to prove his assertions.
