Seven individuals died in three accidents on Sunday evening in Naivasha, including two children. The World Rally Championship had recently concluded in Hells Gate National Park, and the seven were returning home after attending it.
Hundreds of rally fans spent hours along the Moi South Lake route after a five-hour traffic backup caused by heavy traffic and backed-up drivers.
In the first incident, a cement-hauling truck crashed head-on with a car carrying three men and two children near Fai's Den on the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway.
Witness Naftali Juma asserted that the trailer, moving from Mai Mahiu to Naivasha, hit the rally enthusiasts' car as it passed a line of vehicles.

According to Juma, the severe traffic jam that happened on the busy road on Sunday evening was caused by the trailer's driver.
He said that while the two critically hurt youngsters died at the Naivasha sub-county hospital, the three men perished "on the spot."
A kid who had attended the rally was discovered dead at the hospital in the second incident after falling from a matatu.
Young people were hanging dangerously from the moving matatu along Moi South Lake road when the man slid and struck his head on the asphalt.
He fell on his head and became unconscious. He was taken to the hospital, but sadly, he did not survive, according to a witness.
On the same road that rally participants were using to head home, the third tragedy was a motorbike rider killed by a fast car.
After the incident at the Karagita Trading Center, the driver of the fast automobile fled the scene, evading the efforts of onlookers to apprehend him.
Naivasha OCP Benjamin Boen, who also said all the bodies had been gathered and sent to the sub-county hospital, verified the occurrences.
While his officers are looking for the automobile driver that struck and killed a motorcycle operator, he added, "In the first case, this was pure negligence and the driver shall be charged in court facing various charges."
