President William Ruto has ordered the shutdown of over 1,000 PayBill numbers to collect government service payments over the next 90 days.
President Ruto stated at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) when unveiling the State's new digital services that Kenyans will soon use the PayBill number 222222 to pay for government services.
As things are, the government, according to President Ruto, cannot account for some of the PayBill numbers used by various government institutions.

He said that 222222 is a dedicated government pay channel. The government expects all government revenue to go through the pay channel so that Treasury can see every government service paid for.
Ruto announced that all other pay bills must be shut down within the next 90 days because they have a problem with some of the PayBills that they cannot account for. Adding that they have around 1,000 paid bills, some of which we are unaware of.
He said that after payments are made through the channel, the Treasury will remit the funds to the appropriate ministries.
President Ruto said that All government money will be paid directly to the Treasury via 222222, and the Treasury will ensure that the entire ecosystem works. If funds are allocated to a specific ministry, the Treasury will ensure that the funds are distributed to the appropriate ministries and organizations.
