Following a suspected food poisoning incident in Kuria West sub-county, Migori County, four persons died, and eight remain hospitalized.
Mr Cleti Kimaiyo, the Kuria West sub-county police commander, stated that the police received a tip from members of the public that several people from Kubweye and Kunguku villages had been hospitalized at Samjomen medical facility due to suspected food poisoning.
Kimaiyo stated that officers from the Isebania police station visited the facility in Mabera and confirmed that four people, David Marwa, Nyasenso Hisingo, Mwita Manaigwa, and Samson Moti, 52, had died.

He added that eight people who ingested the food and illicit booze were treated at Samjomen medical facility before being moved to Migori level four hospital for additional treatment and that their conditions are being checked.
According to the sub-county police commander, the patients were taken to the facility with breathing difficulties, vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach pain, according to the report from Samjomen Hospital.
Mr Kimaiyo stated that the bodies of the four deceased have been transported to the Akidiva Hospital morgue pending autopsies and police investigations.
He claimed that the police went to the residence of one of the deceased, Nyasenso Hisingo, in Kubweye village, where the victims allegedly ate and drank.
