Boni Khalwale, a senator from Kakamega, has accused Azimio senators of funding 'goons' who destroy public property during protests.

He said Vihiga senator Godfrey Osotsi and Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna were behind the violent protesters who wrecked the Nairobi Expressway on Wednesday during anti-government protests.

During an interview on Thursday, Khalwale expressed his anger when Osotsi blamed the police for the turmoil that transpired during the riots.

“The goons you paid came and started destroying the expressway in a similar manner that they uprooted the railway line in Kibera; the police were not just going to sit there and allow the mayhem to go unattended,” Khalwale said.

“When I hear a senator who has been an MP for 5 years shifting the blame to the police I start wondering is the problem education, is the problem the office we occupy or is the problem ignorance so to speak. How can Osotsi dare tell people that it is the police which are provoking these youths,” Khalwale added.

Khalwale branded Wednesday's anti-government protest as violent and challenged Azimio senators to court to prove the rallies were lawful.

Khalwale called Osotsi and Sifuna cowards for not participating in the protests, claiming that they remained in their offices waiting for the goons they bribed to destroy property to respond.

“And Osotsi, you are cowards, you and Sifuna are big cowards, the office of the leader of minority is opposite my office, and Osotsi and Sifuna yesterday they were hiding in that office the whole day up to 4PM, the were hiding there, they drank gallons upon gallons of tea paid for by taxpayers waiting to see whether the goons they had paid were earning their money,” Khalwale added.

Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia mirrored Khalwale's remarks, accusing the Azimio team of exploiting the country's economic circumstances to sow turmoil in the name of protests.
