Azimio La Umoja Leader Raila Odinga has said that Thursday's planned anti-government protests will go as expected.
In a phone interview, the opposition leader urged his supporters to end demonstrations at 5 PM, saying he will continue fighting for Kenyans.
“We will continue our with our peaceful demonstrations as planned. But we will stop at 5pm today and resume tomorrow (Thursday) morning,” he said.
The opposition leader has also confirmed that his bodyguard Maurice Ogeta had been freed by police and called for the release of at least nine Azimio leaders arrested during Wednesday protests.
MP Babu Owino and Senator Stewart Madzayo of Kilifi were detained in Embakasi East.
As police shot tear gas at protestors, who took to the streets against a government warning after earlier protests turned violent, killing more than a dozen people in the previous two weeks, dozens of Azimio supporters were also detained in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and other towns.
The opposition has promised to stage three days of weekly protests against President William Ruto’s government for not lowering the cost of living in the country.
On Tuesday evening, Narc Leader Martha Karua confirmed that the coalition has so far collected six million signatures to remove President William Ruto from power.
