Kenya Seed Company has appointed former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors.

According to a Gazette notice dated July 21, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi also appointed Symon Kipchumba, Edwin Tum, Bernard Wambwa and Job Ndemo as board members.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that the following have been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Seed Company Limited following the Annual General Meeting of the 30th June, 2023,” read the Gazette notice.

Ngirici vied in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial contest as an independent candidate during the 2022 General Election.

She narrowly lost the race after garnering 105,667 votes behind her competitor Ann Waiguru who garnered 113,088 votes.

Ngirici challenged Waiguru’s victory by filling a petition at Kerugoya High Court by her legal team, stating that she had evidence that the outcome of the poll was manipulated to suit Governor Waiguru.

However, Ngirici the petition on October 5, 2022, citing wide consultations with the leadership of President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Ngirici further said that the withdrawal of the case would allow Governor Waiguru to discharge her duties “without interruptions”.
