According to opposition leader Raila Odinga, President William Ruto has hindered efforts to mediate a political truce between the Azimio la Umoja alliance and the ruling Kenya Kwanza party.

Raila Odinga told the Foreign Press Association of East Africa that many notable persons, both local and foreign, had sought in vain to bring the two together to assist in alleviating the tensions between the government and the opposition.

This impasse has resulted in a standoff between President Ruto and the Azimio leader, leading weekly anti-government rallies that have resulted in fatalities, injuries, property destruction, and a significant economic impact.

Former prime minister Raila Odinga said that The President of Tanzania came to kenya two weeks ago at President Ruto's invitation to mediate, and she was kept waiting for two nights.

He said he is willing to sit down with other people to discuss these issues, but president ruto is pretending, living in the delusion that kenya doesn't have a crisis.

The Azimio la Umoja coalition leader further accused the Kenya Kwanza team of sabotaging all efforts to restore sanity to the nation, emphasizing that neither he nor his party wishes to join Ruto's cabinet.

The leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance went on to deny that anti-government protests are to blame for the country's soaring living costs.

According to Odinga, the Kenyan economy has been harmed by faulty policies promoted by the Kenya Kwanza government rather than the weekly rallies calling for repealing the Finance Act 2023 and an audit of the 2022 General Election.

During earlier protests, the coalition called on its supporters to light candles and lay flowers for the victims of police abuse.

According to Azimio, 50 people have died thus far, with hundreds more injured and admitted to hospitals with critical injuries.
