According to a fire department in Northeastern Mexico, fifteen people died on Thursday when a bus carrying migrants and locals crashed into a ravine.

Citizens of India and Africa were among those killed in the crash.

"So far there are 15 deaths, but we fear there will be more," a fire department official said anonymously.

The bus was driving from Mexico City to Tijuana, located in the northwest and bordering San Diego, where many migrants try to flee to safety in the US.

At least 17 people were killed in a bus accident in February involving migrants from Central America, Colombia, and Venezuela between the southern state of Oaxaca and the centre of Puebla.

In Mexico, fatal traffic collisions are frequently brought on by excessive speed, poor vehicle conditions, or drowsy drivers.

Many people often use buses; small transportation companies with outdated equipment occasionally operate them to serve isolated villages.

A passenger bus careened off a mountain road and into a ravine in Oaxaca in July, killing at least 29 passengers.
