As a result of the operation, a 54-year-old mother and three children aged 16 and 17 were apprehended in Nairobi's Kariua slums.
Kenyans on Twitter were horrified by the finding, with some claiming to know the woman they called "Mathe wa Ngara".
Other Kenyans, however, pointed out a disparity between the National Police Service (NPS) and the DCI, claiming that the NPS reported the sum as Sh12.9 million while the DCI reported it as Sh13.4 million.
