The United States ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, has been asked to withdraw her statements that the August 2022 general election will be free and fair by a group of parliamentarians who are a part of the Azimio la Umoja alliance.

The US representative claimed that the most recent survey was the most reliable one the nation had ever conducted at the beginning of the Devolution Conference on Wednesday in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

"...what I witnessed was nothing short of remarkable. Kenya held, what many analysts and commentators say, was the free-est, fairest and most credible election in Kenyan history,” she stated.

At a press conference on Thursday, Azimio Senators Enoch Wambua, Moses Kajwang, and Oburu Oginga urged the ambassador to refrain from interfering in Kenyan politics.

The group added that Ambassador Whitman's comments did not accurately represent US support for democracy.

The ambassador was also criticized by the leaders for endorsing the present taxation of Kenyans, saying Whitman's comments would jeopardize the upcoming national negotiations.
