Ababu Namwamba, the Sports Cabinet Secretary, is scheduled to appear in plenary on Wednesday afternoon to answer questions about napping charges on the job.

According to order papers obtained by Citizen Digital, the minister will be grilled on various sensitive issues, beginning with the Ministry's part in enabling the Kenyan team that attended the Special Olympics games held in Berlin, Germany, in June 2023.

He will be expected to explain why the delegation jetted out of the country without the CS or a Ministry representative waving them off.

He will also explain why he did not believe it was appropriate to welcome and applaud the squad upon their return to the country.

The final question on the subject will inquire as to what steps the Ministry is taking "to ensure the anomaly of ill-treating athletes does not reoccur."

In the second matter, CS Namwamba is expected to shed light on the country's management of aquatic sports.

The plenary will want to know why Kenya Aquatics has historically been unable to comply with World Aquatics regulations and judgments, including holding elections, even after a Stabilization Committee was constituted on June 28, 2022.

Namwamba will also have to explain the Ministry's efforts to guarantee that the Kenya Aquatics Stabilization Committee holds elections and when the elections will take place.

He will be required to clarify how the Ministry will assist Kenyan swimmers' participation in the World Aquatics event in Doha, Qatar, in February 2024, as well as the Summer Olympics in Paris, France, in 2024.

Finally, he must explain how the Ministry intends to resolve prejudice, unfairness, and ambiguity in the selection criteria of swimmers competing in various competitions.

The motion to examine Namwamba was brought before the House on August 17 by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah, who voiced discontent with the Sports CS's ministry leadershiMinistrymanded an investigation into his performance.

Ichung'wah described it as "appalling" to see teams return to the country while no one from the Sports Ministry tries to rejoice or welcome them.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei echoed his concerns, alleging that Sports Ministry officials travel with "girlfriends" at the cost of the nation's top sports representatives.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka have joined the censure chorus.
