Youth Affairs and Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba has stated that he will not resign because his ministry is doing well.

Namwamba argued on Wednesday, when the National Assembly interrogated him for allegedly failing in his duties as Sports CS that he has been setting the tune at his Ministry since assuming the position in October 2022.

He noted that when he took over the Sports docket, it was in shambles, but he and other Ministry officials had steadily scaled up the department's activities to benefit Kenyan sportsmen.

"I have not said at all that I am not in control of this Ministry. I am fully in touch and in control of this Ministry but I have made it clear that this is a public institution and it cannot be run as a one-man show. I share responsibilities with my two PSs and technical officers," said Namwamba.

"I am performing well as the Youth and Sports CS. When I walked into this Ministry 10 months ago as CS, I inherited an arena in a total mess. I believe Mrs. Speaker that there is absolutely no sufficient ground to cause my resignation because I'm performing excellently as the CS in charge of this ministry." he added.

Namwamba has come under fire for reportedly failing to carry out his prescribed obligations, neglecting to demonstrate concern for the welfare of athletes, and abusing the perks bestowed upon him by his position.

Ababu has also been chastised for reportedly failing to send off and receive back Kenyan athletes competing in international athletic competitions.

However, he tried to reassure the MPs that the Sports Ministry was well-represented at the event, pointing out that other officials were always there and were even accompanied by the team's patron, Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi.
