The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has been advised to instill trust among taxpayers to encourage voluntary compliance.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi stated that the government has implemented radical efforts to change tax administration to maximize revenue collection.

He stated that KRA, the government's national revenue collecting agency, should embrace professionalism while improving efficiency and justice.

Mudavadi stated that the taxman must always assure accountability and openness for the government to fulfill its revenue collection target.

"All nations rely on taxes to provide citizens with public services and to sustain economic growth." "We build and operate hospitals, develop schools, pay teachers, deliver water, build national transportation networks, and provide national security, among other public necessities," he explained.

Mudavadi spoke at the recruits training college in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, where he represented President William Ruto at the KRA Revenue Service Assistants graduation ceremony.

He stated that revenue collection will allow the country to meet its national and international obligations.

He asked Kenyans to disregard dissenting voices alleging that the government is imposing punishing taxing measures on them.

Mudavadi stated that the time has come for Kenyans to change their mindset and recognize that they control the destiny of their country. Hence, everyone is required to pay their taxes.

According to recent data, KRA has maintained a positive upward trajectory in revenue collection after implementing business-friendly policies.

It collected Ksh.2.166 trillion in the fiscal year 2022/2023, representing a 6.7% increase over Ksh.2.031 trillion in the previous year.

The former Finance Minister also warned that corporate fear of government personnel and processes stops them from achieving their potential, denying the country income growth and total economic uptake.

He urged KRA to assist businesses in meeting their tax commitments by streamlining processes and ensuring a stable and predictable business climate.
