Busia High Court has sentenced a 27-year-old man to ten years in jail after he was found guilty of raping a 67-year-old grandmother.
The Court’s presiding Judge, Justice Edna Nyaloti, found Nobert Okotchi Juma guilty of committing the sexual offense in September 2022 while armed with a sharp weapon.
Further, heard that Okotchi committed the criminal act while adorned in artificial hair at the Nagonga area in Funyula Constituency, probably to disguise himself.
He also caused grievous damage to the victim’s private parts.
Justice Nyaloti stated that the court was satisfied with the prosecution's evidence and reports from the gender officer from the Funyula police station, Moses Mang'eni, that the victim recognized him by the sound of his voice as he spoke to her during the act.
Okotchi was given a 14-day window to challenge the ruling or get a 10-year sentence at Korinda Prison.
