Following a spate of terror incidents in the area, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki officially opened the Lamu East Sub-area Headquarters on Wednesday.

Along with Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, the Interior Ministry chief met with the Coast Regional, Lamu County, and Lamu East Sub-County Security and Intelligence Committees to review a few security measures in the county.

Kindiki also spoke at a security baraza on Faza, Pate Island.



Several Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) troops were injured Sunday after running over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

According to a KDF statement, the officers were on patrol along the Milimani Baure road when the tragedy occurred. There were no recorded casualties.

Two individuals were killed, and nine houses were set on fire on August 22 after suspected terrorists assaulted motorists in the Lango la Simba area and Salama village.


Following the attack, the third in the neighborhood in two months, more than 20 families were displaced.

The attack came just a week after three people went missing following a terrorist attack along the same road.

Two weeks prior, a Hindi MCA James Njaaga vehicle was ambushed, killing two persons. During the incident, the MCA received bullet wounds.

Terrorists killed 20 people in Lamu, Mandera, Garissa, and Wajir counties alone in June.
