Residents in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County, were shocked after a man drowned while taking photos near the waterfall.
The man allegedly traveled from Nairobi to view Gicheru Falls and take a photo with his lover when he fell and was swept away by the currents.
According to Ephantus Bundi, who was present at the time of the event, the two were taking a selfie while others stood around.

Confirming the Wednesday evening incident, Gichugu sub-county Police commander Edward Ndirangu stated that six of the eight individuals who came to view the fall were from Nairobi, and two were from Kutus in Kirinyaga.
“Right now we are searching the 26-year-old man and we will not rest until he is found,” Ndirangu said.
Residents and friends gathered at the river bank on Thursday morning to help in the search.
“We know the history of this river. It is dangerous and poses a challenge for our search,” Dickson Gicimu said.
