Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna wants President Ruto to apologize to Kenyans for lying that he would lower the cost of living.
President Ruto campaigned on cutting the cost of living and defending Kenyans in the low-income group and championed the bottoms-up economy aimed at helping people at the grassroots. Yet, a year into his presidency, Kenya is embroiled in a fierce discussion about fuel costs, which have reached an all-time high.
He just signed the Finance Act 2023, which attempts to boost taxation for the Kenya Kwanza government to obtain more revenue from Kenyans. His borrowing in his first year also eclipsed the previous year's record set by his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.

“When he was addressing the cost of fuel as Deputy President, the war in Ukraine according to him had no links whatsoever to the cost of living, neither was climate change. He singled out state capture and cartels. He told us he would destroy the cartels but fuel is now retailing at over Ksh.200. What happened to that story?” posed the senator.
While speaking on a citizen TV interview, Senator Sifuna said that Ruto was attempting to sway Kenyans' votes in the 2022 presidential election by making all the promises he did and now is having a hard time fulfilling them.
He added that It is a crime under the Leadership and Integrity Act and that the president should be jailed for a public officer to give false information to the public.
