Kenyans on social media were disgusted after an image emerged of a Kenyan house help sitting on the floor of a zen garden restaurant as her Asian host family enjoyed a cozy meal.

In the now-viral photo, the African househelp can be seen sitting on the floor away from the Asian family as they enjoyed their meal without even offering her a seat.

@zengarden shame on you for serving this family as they made their worker sit on the floor! The fact that you let this go on in your establishment is shameful and disgusting. You’re enabling the mistreatment of domestic workers. Shame on you.


"Taking your house help out to a restaurant & not offering them food & dignified seating is heartless. Also, taking them to the restaurant is unnecessary if that is how you intend to differentiate them. As for Zen Garden, the courtesy of offering a chair is theirs." one user noted

"What happened at Zen Garden has everything to do with the employers of the house girl than the establishment. We shouldn't cancel the business. It is the fools who hired the house girl who ordered her to sit on the FLOOR as they eat at the "high table". Imagine what they do to her private if this is what happens in public..." another one added.

Zen Garden has yet to respond to claims of racism.
