Cardinal Otunga Girls High School in Bungoma County recently took action by expelling 18 students who were allegedly found in possession of mobile phones and involved in inappropriate behavior. A report by Citizen indicates that these students were subsequently called for a disciplinary hearing on September 28.
The parents have reported that the school has requested them to collect their children and take them home, placing them on an indefinite suspension. They have been advised to await further communication from the board, with the specific date yet to be determined.
Another parent asserts that during the hearing, his daughter was accused of engaging in inappropriate behavior due to "dancing inappropriately" during an entertainment session, which led to allegations of lesbianism.
“They had weekend entertainment and were dancing.” “Has the ministry established guidelines for how students should dance?” he inquired.
Sources indicate that among the suspended students, nearly 14 are part of four candidates who are scheduled to sit for national exams in the upcoming weeks.
The indefinite suspension has left the parents in a precarious situation, uncertain about whether their daughters will be able to participate in the national exams.
“We are perplexed and disturbed by the school’s relocation. “Our students are subjected to deep psychological torture; they have been subjected to shame and uncertainty,” a parent said.
