Kileleshwa County Assembly member, Honorable Robert Alai, has disclosed his perspective on the events at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) during the recent blackout on Saturday. Alai, in a post on his X page, suggested that individuals may have been attempting to smuggle US dollars out of the country for the purpose of concealing them in offshore accounts. He further asserted that such actions were indicative of destructive activities orchestrated by cartels in the country.
"Time to smuggle some US dollars out of the country. Crooks are destroying this country." Alai said.
Kenyans are abuzz with conversation following the nationwide blackout, with uncertainty surrounding its cause. The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has not disclosed the reason behind the outage but has assured the public that they will promptly provide information on the cause once power is restored.

Just three months ago, a comparable incident occurred, causing a halt in operations at JKIA for hours, including the rerouting of planes to South Africa. The Ministry of Transport faced criticism for lacking backup generators at the airport. There were also allegations that, during the blackout, certain individuals illicitly introduced items, aiming to evade detection by authorities.
