Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz concluded months of indecision on Tuesday, January 16, by officially endorsing former President Donald Trump for the 2024 GOP nomination. This marks a notable reversal from their dynamics in the 2016 contests.

The endorsement followed Trump's commanding victory in the Iowa caucuses, an event Cruz described as "dominating" and praised the people of Iowa for their diligent scrutiny of candidates. He acknowledged Trump as the sole candidate prepared to take on the left wing and political establishment.

"I've got to say, there's no place like the Iowa caucuses. I know it intimately. The men and women of Iowa, they take their responsibility incredibly seriously. They scrutinize the candidates," Cruz stated, highlighting the significance of the democratic process.

Calling for party cohesion, Cruz asserted, "I am proud to endorse Donald Trump for president of the United States. I look forward to supporting him enthusiastically."

After the events in Iowa, Cruz diminished the prospects of other candidates and foresaw Trump securing victory in New Hampshire's primary, following an anticipated win in South Carolina.

On Tuesday, Cruz, who had previously kept mum about his 2024 Republican primary preference, publicly announced his steadfast support for Trump. "I'm a big believer we need to let the process play out: It did. And the results last night: 51% [of the vote, which included] 98 counties – that's compelling," Cruz commented.

Recognizing that he stands as a prime target for Democrats in the upcoming senatorial election, Cruz expressed pride in garnering attention and facing opposition from left-wing Democrats.

"If you are a left-wing Democrat, after Donald Trump, there's nobody in the country you want to beat more than me. And Chuck Schumer has made clear I am his number one target in the country," Cruz asserted confidently.
