Former Kieni MP Kanini Kega has hinted at ditching the Azimio La Umoja coalition close to a week after succeeding in his bid for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
He said a section of legislators in the Raila Odinga-led coalition suppressed his chances of making it to Arusha to represent Kenya in the regional parliament.
Kega termed the lawmakers allied to Raila as traitors after they supposedly gave his bid a wide berth despite the sacrifices he made in favour of the former prime minister.
He said his counterparts from Mt Kenya were the ones who came to his rescue, thus saving his bid that was hanging in the balance.

"In Azimio, I thought they would support me. But when I went to the campaign, they said they were not sure whether they would vote for me because, in Jubilee, we were three. Even those MPs from Kisumu did not vote for me. I was surprised because I sacrificed a lot for them, but they couldn't sacrifice for me," said Kega.
During the EALA vote last week, Kega trailed other aspirants in the Senate, where he got 29 votes.
He luckily got a lifeline in the National Assembly, where 168 members voted in his favour.
Further, the politician suggested that he blundered big-time by rallying behind Raila in the recently-held presidential vote.
He hailed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his steadfastness in the face of the humiliation meted on region's leaders who dissented from former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kega vowed to work with the deputy president going forward; he exuded confidence in Rigathi, whom he said would make a perfect go-to leader in the region.
"In the mountain, we will be speaking one voice. Rigathi will unite us because he is the senior most leader we have. In the future, I will think twice before supporting anyone again. Were it not for the MPs of the mountain, I would watch EALA from Viusasa," he said.
Kega spoke on Wednesday, November 23, while appearing for an interview at Inooro Radio.
