Following a vote by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) on Thursday, October 24, Nyamira County has declared the Speaker's position vacant.
Speaker Enock Okero was impeached just two years after taking office.
In a notice issued on Friday, October 25, the Clerk of the Nyamira County Assembly invited interested candidates to apply for the position.
“Article 178 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 as read together with Section 9 A (1) of the County Government Act, 2012 provides that each County Assembly shall have a Speaker who shall be elected by that County Assembly in accordance with the Standing Orders, from among persons who are qualified to be elected as members of County Assembly but are not such members” read part of the notice.
“In light of the above, interested people who qualify for the position are therefore invited to submit their nomination papers for election to the Office of Speaker of the County Assembly of Nyamira.”
