Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro found himself at the center of online debate after taking to his X timeline to congratulate U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump as the election results began to come in.
Nyoro who has been silent for a very long time since DP Gachagua's impeachment process kicked off has not been spared as by Kenyans online.
Known for his vocal support of conservative values, Nyoro expressed optimism about the former president’s political comeback.
However, Nyoro’s post quickly sparked reactions from Kenyan social media users, with many questioning why a Kenyan MP was focusing on American politics rather than issues closer to home.
Some users expressed frustration, urging Nyoro to prioritize the pressing economic and social concerns affecting Kenyans, including the rising cost of living, unemployment, and public sector challenges.
“Why is our MP more concerned with the U.S. elections instead of addressing issues here in Kenya?” one user commented.
Another user added, “Focus on matters affecting Kiharu first before celebrating foreign politicians.”
Another user also asked if Africa is not his business again. Nyoro has been known for the slogan We are and Africa is our business.
Despite the backlash, Nyoro stands out as one of the few Kenyan politicians who openly endorse Trump’s leadership style and policies.
His post reflects his admiration for Trump’s brand of conservatism, aligning closely with Nyoro's broader political stance. Yet, the public reaction underscores a growing demand for Kenyan leaders to prioritize local concerns, particularly in the face of economic challenges. With U.S. election results still unfolding, it’s uncertain whether Nyoro will respond to the criticism from Kenyans or further comment on Trump’s campaign. So far, the MP has not replied to any comments on his post.
