President William Ruto has delivered a strong warning to government agencies delaying the implementation of his directive to digitize services.

Speaking at the First Anniversary of the e-Citizen Directorate at KICC in Nairobi, he criticized manual operations for contributing to inefficiencies and significant revenue losses.

“I promised Kenyans there would be no money to steal in my government, and digitization is key to that promise,” Ruto said.

The President named 34 agencies, including the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, and Kenya Power, that have yet to transition to digital platforms.

He gave them a one-week ultimatum to comply or face consequences, warning, “Those who cannot comply should step aside.”

Ruto emphasized that digitization is central to his administration’s efforts to curb corruption and enhance transparency.

President Ruto emphasized that outdated systems breed inefficiency, revenue losses, and corruption, undermining public trust in government operations.

He commended the e-Citizen Directorate for its achievements, highlighting success stories like the Kenya Wildlife Service, where digitization has reduced corruption and improved revenue collection.

With the deadline approaching, all eyes are on government agencies to see whether they will embrace reform or face leadership shake-ups.
