Senator Gloria Orwoba broke into tears in the Senate while defending herself against reading a prescribed letter of apology regarding her past conduct. Visibly emotional, she stated that she could not comply, arguing that the apology was self-incriminating and could impact her ongoing court case.

The situation escalated as Speaker Amason Kingi presented her with two options: either read the apology as drafted by the Senate Committee and resume her seat or refuse, appeal for amendments, and continue serving her suspension. This ultimatum left Orwoba distressed, insisting that the House was putting her in an unfair position.

Tearfully, she insisted that she was being treated unfairly, warning that a similar fate could befall another senator in the future. Her refusal to comply with the committee’s decision exposed divisions within the Senate over how her disciplinary case should be handled.
