President ruto said that it is time we have an honest conversation and that rich countries should start treating africa as an asset adding that we want a system that is accountable and that holds the emitters who pollute the world to account. If it is not liable, it is corrupt, and Africa should not be treated as a beggar.

For years, African governments have demanded that the world's top polluters pay for the "loss and damage" caused by their emissions contributing to pollution. The most recent round of UN climate talks, held in Egypt last year, agreed on a fund to cover the costs incurred by developing countries due to climate-related natural catastrophes and impacts such as rising sea levels.

According to Kenya's president William Ruto, Africa must be treated as a critical partner, and the global banking system must be completely revamped if any results are to be achieved.UN chief Antonio Guterres shared the same sentiments saying that Africa is mistreated by the global financial system that charges them very high-interest rates.

Countries in the horn of Africa and east Africa are experiencing the worst drought in over 40 years. The united nation estimates that over 22 million people in the affected countries are on the verge of starvation. This dry spell is attributed to climate change.
