Several young people were detained as they got ready to join the Azimio la Umoja leaders in their planned protests in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), close to the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The young men gathered outside the KICC, where the leaders of the Azimio la Umoja movement were supposed to start their march. The arrests were made when some of them allegedly tried to enter KICC.

The location has been tightly guarded. Security guards tasked with maintaining order during the protests intervened to scatter the gathering. During the ensuing melee, several youths were arrested and loaded into an awaiting lorry.

In comments, some Kenyans have expressed their opinions about the ongoing Azimio protests. Some said whoever advised the police did wrong and that arresting demonstrators will worsen the situation.

Some Kenyans posed a question, What could hurt the Government by letting demonstrators demonstrate today and go home by evening?
