Political analyst Herman Manyora has said investigations on the violence witnessed on Monday during Azimio's mass action should start with the police.

Manyora said the police should be held to account for the shooting to death of the Maseno University student and dispersing peaceful demonstrators with tear gas.

The political commentator was responding to a tweet by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that it had launched investigations into the acts of violence committed on Monday.

"Good. Start with the police. The violence against Raila, Kalonzo and team," he said.

Raila claimed on Tuesday that there was an attempt on his life and that of Azimio co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka.

He said their vehicles were shot at but they escaped unscathed.

"There was an attempt on the lives of both Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka. Their cars were shot at but luckily, they were unharmed. We remain horrified and disgusted by the response of the police," he said.

Manyora said the DCI probe should not spare the law enforcers over their alleged involvement in the excessive use of force.

"The senseless beating of the innocent boda boda guy in Kisumu. The fatal shooting of the Maseno University student. The tear gas and water cannons against peaceful, unarmed Kenyans," he said.

His remarks came shortly after HAKI Africa called for the suspension and prosecution of officers involved in the killing of the Maseno University student and the shooting of two others during the demos.

According to a police report, the third-year student was shot at as police were trying to disperse protesters who had overpowered them in Maseno town.

The report said the officers had run out of teargas canisters and blanks.

It added that six police officers were injured during the skirmishes.
