Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has called upon the residents of Murang’a to turn out in large numbers for his town hall meeting.

In a statement, Odinga has asked the resident to freely engage on issues affecting them.

"Like all engagements that the party has held in recent months, the Muranga meeting will be peaceful and strictly within the law," he said.

Raila added that the coalition plans to hold similar engagements nationwide over the upcoming few weeks.

Raila said the meeting will start at 10 a.m. on Thursday in Muranga Town.

His call comes after the police in Murang'a called off Thursday's meeting.

David Mathiu, the commander of the Murang'a police, turned down the meeting on the grounds that Azimio had given a late notice.

The coalition led by Raila Odinga filed the notification on Tuesday, despite Mathiu's assertions that it should have been sent four days earlier to allow for thorough planning.

As a result, the meeting won't be allowed to take place.

As Raila gets ready to resume the weekly protests, the coalition he leads had scheduled a journey of Mount Kenya to rally his local followers.

The delegation will be staying with Usawa kwa Wote party leader Mwangi wa Iria, who has committed to lead the protests against the Kenya Kwanza in the area.
