Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told Former President Uhuru Kenyatta the government will take no issue with his commitment to protect his family. Still, his actions will not distract the government’s quest to protect all Kenyans.

Gachagua said the government will exercise its mandate to protect all Kenyans irrespective of their economic or social background.

“I have heard others says that their work is to protect their family and children and its fine. But who will protect the children of poor people? That’s what the President must do, because they don’t have money to buy guns,” the DP said.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance government and Kenyatta are currently at crossroads over allegations that the latter's family has illicit weaponry.

On Friday night, officers purportedly from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) allegedly searched his son Jomo's residence in Karen, Nairobi, for weapons.

Kithure Kindiki, the interior cabinet secretary, announced over the weekend that three homesteads in the Karen region were the subject of a security operation that seized 23 firearms, some of which may have been used for criminal purposes.

According to former president Uhuru, the raid was a farce and questionable. He said the security personnel tried to create allegations against his eldest son.

However, the Deputy President has defended the raid, claiming that all Kenyans must be protected and that the action was not designed to frighten anyone.

“If you can buy guns for your children to protect themselves that ok. What about those parents that can’t afford to buy guns for their children? The government must use their guns to protect their children,” Gachagua stated.

After the State allegedly removed protection assigned to his mother, Kenyatta dared the government to stand up to him and end targeted attacks against his family.
