According to a new report by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA), the ruling party the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has posted an increase in approval ratings since June 2023 to 34 percent.

On the other hand, the report reveals that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lost ground from 18 percent to 16per cent.

“UDA remains the dominant political party, its level of popularity being nearly twice that of the Opposition’s ODM. All others combined attract less than half of that of ODM,” read part of the report.

Further, the report stated UDA is strongest in Central Rift (48 per cent), Mt. Kenya (45 per cent) and Northern Kenya (45 per cent).

“The results from Northern are perhaps more significant, just in late July last year TIFA found that ODM and Jubilee combined were far more popular than was UDA (51 per cent vs 31 per cent), yet now UDA is twice as popular as ODM there, with Jubilee’s support minimal,” the report indicated.

In Nyanza, ODM received a higher rating (40%) than other parties.

In Western Kenya, UDA scored at 31% compared to Orange Party's 19%, while ODM scored at 20% in Nairobi, trailing UDA's 27%.

According to TIFA's analysis of coalitions, there has been a continuous loss of support, with the dominant Kenya Kwanza party losing ground from 49% in June to 35% in September.

Over the same time span, the opposition Azimio coalition's share of the vote dropped from 40% to 28%.

However, TIFA reported an increase in the number of undecided respondents on coalition affiliation from 13 per cent to 36 per cent.
