In the Premier League on Saturday, Manchester United defeated Sheffield United 2-1 after its players gave a moving homage to club legend and England World Cup winner Bobby Charlton.

As one of United's all-time greats and a vital component of England's 1966 World Cup winning squad, Charlton passed away earlier in the day at the age of 86.

At Bramall Lane, an image of the former attacking midfield player was shown on a massive screen, and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes laid a wreath.

Before kickoff, the players were gathered around the center circle to cheer from the fans.

Prior the kickoff, Scott McTominay, a midfielder for Manchester United, called Charlton's passing "devastating".

Bottom team Oli McBurnie's early attempt to open the score went straight at Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, despite Sheffield United being the superior team in the first quarter of the match.

However, in the 28th minute, McTominay controlled the ball on his chest and hit the bottom corner from 12 yards out, giving the lazy visitors the lead against the run of play.

The Scotland international scored two goals in stoppage time to help United defeat Brentford 2-1 earlier this month. This was his third goal in two games.

However, the advantage was short lived as McBurnie scored from the penalty spot six minutes later when McTominay mishandled a cross from James McAtee.

Wes Foderingham of Sheffield United was frozen to the spot as Fernandes' free shot struck the top of the crossbar, just missing the opportunity to put United back ahead.

Then, with half-time drawing near, Foderingham made a superb point-blank save to deny Rasmus Hojlund.

The game opened up in the early minutes of the second half, giving both teams opportunities.

Alternate Onana parried a long-range attempt from Rhian Brewster, while Foderingham saved a shot from Hojlund following a defensive blunder.

Marcus Rashford, who has only scored one goal in the Premier League this year, then squandered a chance after making a break down the left.

Just after the hour, United manager Erik ten Hag made three substitutions to find a winner: he brought in Christian Eriksen, Alejandro Garnacho, and Anthony Martial.

However, in the 77th minute, defender Diogo Dalot pulled off the miraculous comeback to win the match.

The Portugal international received the ball outside the area and hammered it home; Foderingham reached out with his fingertips but could not stop it.

Manchester United's victory moves them up to ninth place in the standings, but Sheffield United is now four points from safety and in serious jeopardy.
