After his team's double header victories over Storms and Th3 Swish over the weekend, Zetech Sparks' Kenya National Basketball Women's Premier League tactician Maurice Obilo showered his charges with praise, describing them as a testament to their depth and caliber of players.

Despite the absence of several important players because of academic obligations, Sparks were at their best, defeating Storms 57-47 on Saturday and crushing Th3 Swish, who were making their debut, 94-36 on Sunday at Nyayo Gymnasium.

According to Obilo, their most recent victories will give his younger players more confidence to perform even without their starters.

"Being an academic institution, we always anticipate situations where we must field our junior players. I am happy for them because they are making the most of such opportunities.

"Most starters were not there when we tipped off our season because we had those who graduated and received better offers from other teams.

"However, we are coping well with the ones who are available. They can only get better.

The Sparks, an academic institution team that finished second in the previous season, have had to settle for using young players for most of this campaign because most starters have completed their coursework, and some are completing their final semester exams.

We are accepting that we won't have our best players at some point during the season due to these realities.

"We have always found ways to compete against other teams in the league, despite the challenges."

Zetech, who finished second in the 2022–23 season after losing the finals to Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 3-0, will be eager to improve that performance in their sophomore campaign.
