Sergio Reguilon's loan move has a break clause that Manchester United has activated, allowing the defender to return to Tottenham.

United signed Reguilon as a replacement for injured left-backs Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw in August.

The 27-year-old made 12 appearances, the most recent one coming on Saturday against Nottingham Forest as a late substitute.

He made seven starts, the last coming on December 9 in a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at home.

Reguilon will be allowed to return to Tottenham, United's Premier League rivals, as Shaw and Malacia are anticipated to return this month.

With half of the season remaining, Ange Postecoglou's team is eight points and two spots ahead of Erik ten Hag's struggling United team, while Spurs are fifth in the standings, one point outside the top four.
