This weekend's All Africa Games trials have been postponed by Athletics Kenya (AK) in remembrance of world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum, who passed away in an automobile accident.

In the terrible event that happened on Sunday night along the Eldoret-Eldama Ravine road, Kiptum and his coach, Gervais Hakizimana, perished.

According to a statement issued by AK on Wednesday to newsrooms, the two-day event scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Nyayo Stadium has been canceled. A new selection procedure will be disclosed.


"Athletics Kenya wishes to inform all athletes and the entire athletics fraternity that the Trials for African Games, which were to be held on 16th and 17th February 2024 at The Nyayo National Stadium, has been canceled in honor of the late Kelvin Kiptum." The statement read.

The purpose of the competition was for AK to select a team to compete for the nation in the All Africa Games, which will take place in Accra, Ghana, from March 8 to 23 this year.
