Three of the four individuals who were reportedly present at the residence of World Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum four days before his mishap have been taken into custody for interrogation.

The three had been held at the Kaptagat Police Station in Elgeyo Marakwet until Wednesday morning when they were moved to Iten to be questioned in more detail.

Police said they had located them and called them.

Abdullahi Dahir of the Keiyo South OCPD stated that the three were being questioned to determine their motivation because they were persons of interest.

Concerns were voiced by Kiptum's father, Samson Cheruiyot, hours after his son's untimely death in a horrific car crash on Sunday night along Eldoret Ravine road.

Four days before his untimely demise, Cheruiyot mentioned that four strangers had visited the athlete at his residence in Chepsamo village, Kaptarakwa ward, Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet.

They could have done a better job of introducing themselves, so he demanded that they be looked into.

Cheruiyot positively identified the three at the Kaptagat Police Station, and the car they were driving was seized at the Keiyo South station.

According to police, preliminary evidence indicates that Kiptum passed away in a car accident.

According to police, an examination of the scene of the collision and the Toyota Premio that was towed to the Kaptagat Police Station revealed that the airbags did not deploy and that the front end of the car was undamaged.

According to OCPD Abdullahi Dahir, an analysis revealed that the airbag sensor is typically located in the front, and the airbags would not deploy if there were no impact on that area of the car.

"We were unable to see the airbags out because the impact (on Kiptum's car) was on the roof, on top of the car," he stated.

Sharon Kosgey, who escaped the deadly collision unharmed, is also anticipated to assist law enforcement in reconstructing the sequence of events that led to the athlete's and his coach's deaths.
