Citizen TV journalist Hassan Mugambi, who has been a crime and investigative journalist at Royal Media Services (RMS), is poised to depart from the media company in the upcoming days to assume a new position at the Ministry of Defence.

According to anonymous sources speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, February 14, it has been confirmed that the journalist is presently giving notice in preparation for his departure.

Following his exit from Citizen TV, the anchor is set to take on the position of communication advisor at the office of Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.

"Mugambi's new role is set to commence in March," the media insider aware of developments at Citizen TV stated.

On Monday, February 12, an initial source revealed that both Mugambi and political reporter Chemutai Goin were slated to depart from Royal Media Services.

"I can confirm to that Mugambi is joining CS Duale's office while Goin will move to Speaker Wetangula's office," the source stated.

Despite being contacted by Kenyans.co.ke, Mugambi did not respond to inquiries concerning his career and whether he had given notice.

Having previously worked as a news anchor at K24, owned by Mediamax Network Limited, the journalist joined Royal Media Services in September 2016.

At Citizen TV, he climbed the ranks from a reporter to a Swahili news anchor. One of his recent responsibilities included anchoring news shows such as Sema na Citizen alongside Lulu Hassan on Fridays.

Mugambi's exit presents a significant challenge to the station situated along Dennis Pritt Road, especially considering the recent departures.

Noteworthy is the fact that he will be leaving the station in tandem with political reporter Chemutai Goin, who is set to take up a position in National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula's office.

Conversely, in response to the departures, the station has been actively bringing in journalists from other media houses to fill the gaps.

Two recent additions to the Kilimani-based station are business anchor Jimmy Mbogoh and Jasmine Wambui, who were recruited from Standard Media Group's KTN News.

"To some personal news now, my time at KTN/KTN News has come to an end after what was a very fulfilling year of storytelling. This has been the greatest storm in my life and I'm glad it happened because it has helped me discover myself," Mbogoh stated while leaving KTN News.
