Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is set to be sidelined "for a while" due to an ankle injury sustained during international duty with Norway, according to manager Mikel Arteta. The injury occurred during Norway's Nations League match against Austria earlier this month, where Odegaard twisted his ankle. Norway's team doctor had initially estimated his recovery time to be at least three weeks.

"Scans revealed some ligament damage in his ankle, so we’ll be without him for now," Arteta told reporters ahead of Arsenal's Champions League opener against Atalanta on Thursday. "I’m not a doctor, so I don’t want to set a specific timeframe, but it’s a significant injury. Hopefully, it won’t be months, but we’ll see."

Arsenal, who finished as Premier League runners-up last season, are scheduled to face current champions Manchester City on Sunday. The Gunners are second in the league, two points behind City, after a 1-0 win against local rivals Tottenham last weekend.
