Following a positive drug test, Amir Khan, a former world champion in the light welterweight class, was slapped with a two-year suspension from all sports, UK Anti-Doping reported on Tuesday.

In February 2022, after losing to Kell Brook in Manchester, Khan, 36, tested positive for the anabolic ostarine.

A drug called ostarine is designed to function similarly to testosterone.

Khan, who announced his retirement last year in May, admitted to breaking the anti-doping laws but maintained that he had not deliberately consumed the chemical. An independent panel agreed with Khan's claim after a hearing in January.

The ban is considered to have begun on April 6, 2022, when his temporary suspension was put into place. The last day of it is April 5, 2024.

Khan rose to fame in Britain after winning a silver medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens when he was just 17.

His professional debut was in July 2005. Four years later, he won the WBA light-welterweight title by defeating Andreas Kotelnik in Manchester.

To unify the WBA and IBF titles in 2011, Khan defeated Zab Judah. Nevertheless, his subsequent loss to Lamont Peterson—who would later test positive for synthetic testosterone—raised questions.

He won 34 of his 40 fights while losing six of them.
