On Tuesday, Local authorities reported that seven tourists died and 13 others were injured in a significant avalanche in India's northeastern Sikkim.
According to the army, the event happened around 11.10 a.m. local time. The military added that at least 20 people were rescued unharmed after snowfall struck several vehicles travelling to the Nathu La mountain pass.
According to Tenzing Loden Lepcha, a top police officer, some people who survived are in serious condition, and rescue efforts are still going on. Lepcha further notes that the avalanches were uncommon for this time of year and were caused by unseasonal rain and snow in the Nathu La mountain region. According to the troops, 350 visitors and 80 cars were saved after the snow cleared the roads.

Kavita Agarwal, a traveller from Delhi, said that authorities advised tourists not to explore a lake on the route to the Nathu La pass due to inclement weather.
