Following defender Lisandro Martinez's setback during Thursday's 2-2 Europa League match with Sevilla, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag remained positive.

Martinez was thought to have suffered a devastating Achilles injury, effectively ending his season.

United led 2-0 late in the match at Old Trafford, but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw due to two own goals.

The draw was far from the only disappointment. Martinez was among the injured players who had to be replaced at halftime against Sevilla, along with attacker Marcus Rashford, defender Luke Shaw, and Martinez's teammate Raphael Varane.

"We saw Licha Martinez leave briefly," Ten Hag told MUTV. "Without an opponent, it doesn't look intriguing, but we'll just have patience and see." The medical staff must carry out its responsibilities to offer a precise diagnosis.

"I think it's an injury," Ten Hag continued, alluding to United's Premier League encounter against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. "I'm not sure what the diagnosis is." I'd rather wait and find out what it is."

Rashford, who garnered 28 goals this season, will miss a few weeks due to a groin injury.

United was the second English team in significant European competition history to score two own goals in the same game. Chelsea became the first, eliminating Ajax Amsterdam's Ten Hag in 2019.
