Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has restated his commitment to reviewing the Sports Act of 2013 to close loopholes as he increases Kenya's assault on doping and match rigging.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday morning, Ababu stated that he is aware of the flaws in the current law.

He admitted that it is possible to combat the vices creating issues in the sector without legislation.

"Our top priority is to eliminate cheating in our sports; doping and match-fixing are thorns in our flesh." It is tarnishing our country's reputation; we know that the Sports Act contains loopholes, and we will amend it to achieve our goals more effectively," stated Ababu.

Currently, only athletes who are affiliate members of various sports bodies are directly punished for doping and match-fixing.

Simultaneously, the Sports CS confirmed that the AFCON 2027 joint bid had been submitted to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania want to host the world's largest football festival for the first time, a challenge Ababu feels they are up to.

"We have had three days of talks with my fellow Ministers from Uganda and Tanzania, and we have agreed on many aspects of the bid." "One of the agreements is that each country contributes 30 million dollars for the fee we are supposed to deposit to CAF," Ababu said, adding that the fee is payable upon winning the bid.


Egypt, Botswana, and Algeria have also made independent proposals before the CAF deadline for expressions of interest next week.

Meanwhile, the CS has underlined that a broadcast partnership for the FKF Kenyan Premier League will be announced before the commencement of the season.

"We've had many problems this season, especially with the FIFA suspension, but we've still accomplished a lot." My top aim was to lift the suspension, which we accomplished within the first month of office.

"I can guarantee we shall have a broadcast partner next season; you can take my word for it," said the CS.

Since the departure of StarTimes immediately following the disbandment of the FKF national office by former Sports CS Amina Mohammed in 2021, there has yet to be an official broadcast partner for the Kenyan Premier League.
