Phil Jones, Manchester United's injury-plagued defender, will depart the club after the season after 12 years at Old Trafford.

Jones' difficult time in Manchester will end when his contract ends in June, United said on Friday.

The 31-year-old, who joined United from Blackburn in 2011, played 229 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and helping them win the Premier League, FA Cup, and Europa League.

Jones, who is still deciding whether or not to play again, said on Twitter, "It's not the time to be sad." It's a moment for me and my loved ones to think and be thankful for the opportunity to work at United.

"I can always tell my family and friends that not many people get to play for this club, to be a part of its history, and to have such happy memories."

Jones has only participated in thirteen matches since the start of the 2019-20 season, almost a year ago.

"I wish I had gotten more chances to play." "I wish I had given more to the many teams with which I played," he confessed.

"I am going to state that I did everything I possibly could from the bottom of my heart." I've already indicated that it was tough for me to communicate with my teammates because I suffered injuries and couldn't help them.

"Sometimes in life, events occur that we dislike, but we must embrace them and be at peace in our minds that we did everything we could to overcome the challenges."
