President William Ruto congratulated double Olympic 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon on breaking the women's 5,000m world record with a scorching run of 14:05.20 on Friday at the Paris Diamond League.

Kipyegon's new world record comes just a week after breaking the women's 1,500m world record in 3:49.11 at the Florence Diamond League.

President Ruto praised Kipyegon's performance on Twitter, calling him a "tenacious athlete with a winning mentality."

"The formula for greatness is tenacity, focus, a hunger for excellence, and a winning mindset." Faith Kipyegon has done it once more. Another World Record, this time in the distance of 5,000 meters. What a competitor! What a source of inspiration! What a fighter! "Congratulations, Kenya is extremely proud of you," President Ruto stated.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who won gold in the 800 meters, was also praised by the head of state. Wanyonyi finished the race in 1:43:27, the fastest time in the world this year over the distance.

"A young man born to greatness." Emmanuel Wanyonyi capped a fantastic night for Kenya by winning the 800m in the fastest time in the world this year at the Paris Diamond League. You've earned it. "We salute you,"

He congratulated Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, on his silver medal in the 100m final. Omanyala finished second in 9.98 seconds, trailing world 200m champion Noah Lyles in 9.97 seconds.

"Congratulations to Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, on winning silver in the 100m at the Paris Diamond League." We salute your fortitude in leading Kenya to prominence and excellence in sprint races, which has been uncharted ground for decades. "Hongera," President Ruto said.
