According to the trial court, French footballer Benjamin Mendy, who is currently on trial for attempted rape and sexual assault, slept with 10,000 women.

The Manchester City footballer allegedly told his victim, a 24-year-old lady, that he had previously been with 10,000 women and that she should not be concerned when he appeared before a UK-based court Chester Crown Court on Thursday during the rape trial.

Mendy, 28, is charged with two counts: assaulting the lady in October 2020 at his £4 million (about Ksh.708 million) property in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, and attempting to rape another woman, 29, two years earlier.

In the 2020 case, counsel Benjamin Aina KC told trial Judge Stephen Everett that the France international was accused of raping the victim despite her refusal to have sex with him.

According to the woman, she went to the footballer's house after receiving an invitation while out with pals at a bar in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

Mendy, she alleged, snatched her phone, which included "intimate" images, and escorted her to his closed bedroom.

When she begged him to return her phone, the Manchester City defender said he wanted to look at her and asked her to remove her clothes, which remained in her underwear.

Mendy is then accused of tossing the phone on top of the bed, and when she reaches out to pick it up, he is claimed to have grabbed her from behind and raped her without her consent.

"At this point, Mr Mendy took a step back and said, 'You're too shy,'" Aina told the BBC. "Mr Mendy said, 'It's fine,'" he added. "I've had sex with 10,000 different women."

According to the court, Mendy was also accused of attempting to rape a female guest at his home in 2018.

On the other hand, Mendy has disputed all claims levelled against him, claiming that any sexual contact was consensual in both instances.
