Novak Djokovic has received a fine of £6,117 for his racquet-smashing outburst during the Wimbledon men's singles final. The incident took place in the fifth set of his match against Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, specifically when Djokovic's serve was broken in the third game.
Umpire Fergus Murphy acted promptly and issued Djokovic a warning for a code violation following the transgression. After a captivating match on Sunday, Djokovic's frustration reached a boiling point in the crucial set. He had a chance to take a 2-0 lead by securing a break at the net but unfortunately missed the opportunity. Right after that, Alcaraz capitalized on the momentum, breaking Djokovic's serve and causing an emotional outburst from the seven-time Wimbledon champion. Some of the Centre Court crowd expressed their disapproval with boos following the incident.
Furthermore, it was announced that the money for the penalty will be deducted from Djokovic's runner-up cheque of £1.175m.
