Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, emphasized the importance of securing a point against AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday. The Premier League team managed to secure a hard-fought 0-0 draw at the formidable San Siro amidst a hostile atmosphere.
Having returned to the tournament after a two-decade hiatus, Newcastle finds themselves in a challenging group alongside Borussia Dortmund and Paris St Germain. Howe pointed out that the draw in Milan might play a pivotal role in their quest to progress further in the competition.
“You can’t underestimate the difficulties of coming here – the emotion of the game, new experiences, we had to take a lot on board today,” Howe said.
“I thought the crowd were very good for Milan. It was a hostile atmosphere, and the players had to adjust to that, and that is why I don’t think you can underestimate the performance and point.
“It will look better and better as time goes on.”
Next on the agenda for Newcastle is an away fixture against Sheffield United in the league, scheduled for this upcoming Sunday.
