Real Madrid now hold the third spot in the standings, trailing Barcelona by a single point and second-placed Girona. Their failure to match Atletico's high level of intensity was evident in this captivating encounter.

Morata opened the scoring with an early header, and Griezmann extended Atletico's lead. However, Toni Kroos ignited Madrid's comeback hopes with a powerful strike just before half-time.

Nonetheless, Morata showcased his heading prowess once more at the beginning of the second half. Despite their efforts, Madrid struggled to stage a comeback against an Atletico squad rebounding from what their coach, Diego Simeone, described as their "weakest" performance in his extensive tenure just last weekend.
